Masha and Alexei will skate first in the final group in
the free skate on Wednesday. Visit the icecalc
site for the complete listing.
From the ISU Web site: Petrova/Tikhonov were the
last skaters of the evening. The 2000 World Champions put
out a crisp program that contained a double twist, a side
by side triple toeloop as well as a high throw triple Salchow
and a good death spiral followed immediately by the final
pair combination spin. The only glitch was a wobbly exit
out of the lift. The Russians’ marks went up to 5.8 for
both required elements and presentation. “There was some
pressure because we skated last. It was a long wait”, Tikhonov
commented. “But I somehow knew that we would do well tonight.
I was very confident. Maria did a great job. There was only
a small glitch on the exit of the lift, everything else
was very nice. Now we’ll fight in the free skating.”

01.20.03 - Maria and Alexei are currently in first place
after the short program. Below are their comments
after this performance (as posted on the ISU website).
Maria: We didnt think of retiring
after the Olympic season, because we still want to win.
We had a little mistake, but we are very pleased with everything
else. We really want to show everyone that we can skate
well.
Alexei: (On the stumble in the spiral) It was
my mistake, because I wanted to do it perfect. I wanted
to put in more expression and didnt pay enough attention
to the technique. We had more expression here, but we skated
the short cleaner at Russian Nationals.
