love story with
skates
Well at first when they met she didn't like him at all, but she needed
a partner very much. That he can become a good skater she realized after
2 years. He was her best friend, brother, and she didn't notice the luster
in his eyes. Then one day he told her that he loved her and everything
changed. She understood that she couldn't live without him. After 10 years
of silence his love was finally answered. As they say " the happiest
day in their life was when Margarita understood that she wanted to see
Povilas beside her even when they are finished with skating."
Hearts Wedding After 10 Years of Quiet Love
Probably he fell in love with her the firs moment he saw her. Tortured
by hugging her, touching her every day, listening to girly stories in
her home. The beloveds eyes talked about friendship, partnership - but
not love. But once he broke. With burning lips said "I love you"
opened the eyes of ice princes. On that day began the love story of Margarita
and Povilas.
Got married 2 years ago. They look happy. Walking through Vilnius old
town, carrying suitcases and smiling. Smiling and pressing ones hand,
smiling and ordering coffee "and something sweet". I tell them,
from laughter you got wrinkles on your face, and then they laugh even
more.
While Margarita is sitting in make-up man's chair, Povilas is pulling
out clothes and skates from the suitcases "don't throw them on the
ground" - reminds that you have to be careful with Olympic skates.
Margaritas skates now are 1 year and old, Povilas even more old. Sharpens
them by himself, doesn't allow anyone else to do it.
Being photographed is like a game to them. While not tired, Povilas whispers
to Margaritas ear some mysterious words, and when nobody is watching claps
on her arse. She responds nicely, by becoming slightly angry. "Flirt
like any mortals" - I think to myself.
"We are like that" - later Povilas will say while drinking his
cold coffee, and will try to convince us that ice stars are just people.
The couples got married 2 years ago and now are living with Margaritas
mother. To their new house they had to move a year ago, but the works
dragged on. At first they thought: we'll give the money to the builders
and they will open a new home for us. But now they've changed their mind
and are ordering which color to pick and etc.
Crooked bandy provincial And there was a time when Povilas could only
dream about home and common life with Margarita. In 1988 when he showed
up they didn't even talk about common career. P.Vanagas hid from army
in Moscow. He was thinking of coming back to Lithuania after 2 years.
Margarita needed a partner very much then. When she saw Povilas for the
first time she thought "such crooked, bandy, small. horrible!"
arrived from Lithuania, skated on streets, without any high results! All
skaters to him looked too womanly. He refused to straighten his back.
The impression was horrible! But I wasn't able to choose.
From the first day I believed that Povilas - only a temporary partner,
but soon she began to doubt "it became obvious that he will reach
something. He was very stubborn. He learned fast something that others
learned for years."
In a foreign city, far away from friends Povilas suffered from nostalgia.
"How many times I thought, enough, I'm going home, I don't want to
be here. I'd return home and then came back with tears in my eyes. After
a year it became easier. My inside voice won: you can't run, you can't
be a deserter."
The 18 years old boy understood that Margarita was thinking about him
only as a temporary partner. Everything changed after their first Olympics;
the 16 place was something worth working for.
Love confesses
11 years together. Everyday. In two divided tears and happiness, anger
and disappointments. Hard trainings, camps, and competition. it looks
like there is no time for love. But still there comes a minute or a second
when suddenly a crazy thought comes into your head, that more then anything
you love a person that is closest to you, that is so close and common,
that you don't notice his feelings. Maybe it's only a habit? "A habit
is a habit - disagrees Povilas. - And love is love. One day your eyes
just open. it happens to a lot of people. Everyone has his secrets about
his love, special experience, which would tell only to closest people.
I'm not used to telling about my feelings to all the world".
Margarita is more open: "that Povilas can become a good skater I
understood after 2 years, that my husband - only after 10. I didn't notice
when one day his eyes began to sparkle. Povilas was my best friend, brother.
And my mom loved him as a son. It looks like I didn't know everything
about him. Those feelings were inside him for a long time, only he was
afraid to talk. That day when we had a heart to heart talk, everything
changed. I told him, that I had to think about it, to make up my mind,
to understand what I really felt. Then different people were surrounding
me."
We can only imagine what Povilas felt, when in the evenings Margarita
told him about her not successful romances. The happiest day in couples
life - when Margarita understood that she wants to see Povilas even when
they are finished with skating. "Something changed inside of me -
remembers Margarita, - I understood that I can imagine my life without
so many people, but without Povilas - no".
Maybe it was compulsory love? "No. - no without even doubting says
Rita. - Povilas became a part of my life." In ice dancing world love
builds and destroys. From love everything begins or ends. Dancers leave
a good partner and start dancing with someone they love. Or after half
year understand that they love each other. And very rarely love comes
after 10 years of silence.
Hearts wedding
Margarita and Povilas never lied while talking about their friendly relationship.
1999 they already talked about their love. "Why hide something that
everybody already knows?" - decided. After a year Povilas proposed
to Margarita. He wasn't guarantied that it will be YES "which man
that is in love isn't afraid of a negative answer?! Only everyone wants
to look that way." on 2000 June they got married in one of Mosques
churches. "We were tired from journalists, we wanted to switch the
rings, and with gods blessing to live in peace. We wanted that our hearts
wedding would be our hearts wedding."
The next day the press found out about it, and after a week they went
to Spain. Their life after the marriage didn't change. Povilas moved in
to Margaritas parents home they skated for the last time in Solt Lake
Cities Olympics.
By winning the 4 place, and left without medals once again the skaters
decide to speak up. "We did it not for ourselves but for those who
will come after us. The judges made a lot of people unhappy, but a lot
of them are afraid to speak up." He is an incarnation of peace and
gentleness.
That's what Margarita has to say about her husband. She says that she's
a blabber and brawler. "If we have any conflicts its only because
of me. We don't fight at home, everything is said on ice: you put the
feet in the wrong way, you didn't jump, you put the hand not there.
They have enough money, but Povilas is not afraid to let her out to the
most expensive Mosques shops. "She has breaks, - laughs, - if she
didn't she would have bought a house in Spain."
Could it be that a well-known couple around the world still doesn't have
a house in South? "Not long ago we found out that Arvydas Sabonis
bought a house in Spain, maybe we'll think about it too", - mysteriously
smiles Povilas. |
