"Mysterio" - About the Show

 by Zivile

Thanks to Margarita and Povilas it has become a tradition that every year Lithuanian figure skating lovers get a precious gift - an outstanding ice show. The tradition wasn't broken this year as well, and third year in succession, Margarita and Povilas presented the whole range of figure skating stars to Lithuanian audience.

"MYSTERIO" - that was the first word that Lithuanian figure skating admirers heard about the upcoming show. The gripping announcements raised the intrigue. And on November 9-13 the great secret of "MYSTERIO" was finally revealed.

3 thousand spectators in "Kaunas Sports Hall", 1,5 thousand spectators in "Klaipeda Ice Arena" and over 7 thousand figure skating admirers gathered in brand new Vilnius "Siemens Arena" were to reveal the secret veil of "MYSTERIO."

The show started off with a mystifying performance of Maxime Rodriguez and his band followed by a spectacular presentation of the skaters, the climax of which was Margarita's and Povilas' performance. The host of the show invites the spectators to return to the past: "Year 2000. Nice. Figure Skating World Championships. The skaters of the final group are warming up. Among them we see the Lithuanian representatives in Ice Dancing - Margarita Drobiazko and Povilas Vanagas. The warm up is over, and our couple takes the ice…" The accords of Emma Shapplin's "Spente le Stelle" fill the hall, and Margarita and Povilas fill everyone's hearts with their breath taking performance (photo at right Butautas Barauskas).
The show continues with an oriental routine by Lithuanian men's champion, Aidas Reklys. "Guru" is the title of this performance, and for a couple of minutes, the audience is taken to India.
The mystery continues with an incredible show both on the ice and in the air acted out by Debbie Park. The audience holds their breath as during the routine called "Abyssinian" a rhythmic gymnast-skater, Debbie, demonstrates her outstanding stunts in the height of 8 meters.
The level of adrenalin keeps on rising with the next skater, Surya Bonaly, taking the ice. Her hearty performance "Lion the King" conquers the audience.

The spectators gathered in Vilnius got an exclusive opportunity to see the brilliant performance of the 1994 Olympic men's champion, Viktor Petrenko, who skated his routine called "Flight." The "Mysterio" show continues with Gia Guddat's "Cleopatra" followed by Elena Leonova's and Andrei Khvalko's "All More." The Lithuanians were already familiar with this remarkable skaters' pair from the last year's "Ice Flames" show, and this year the duo left an incredible impression as well with their amazing lifts and throws.
The next skater, Alexei Urmanov, takes us to France with his "Notre Damme de Paris."
And finally, the 2002 Olympic Ice Dancers Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat, take the ice. With every move of their Flamenco routine, the atmosphere in the hall gets warmer and warmer. This concludes the first part of the "MYSTERIO" show.
