"Ice Age"

| Since September 1st, a new season of the popular
TV project "Stars on Ice" is broadcast on Russian
"Channel 1". This time the show is called "Ice Age". The idea of the show is that professional figure skaters skate together in pairs with celebrities from different areas: singers, actors, tv hosts, comedians, sportsmen (from other disciplines than figure skating) etc. The figure skaters have to teach their new partners lots of things and create new dances each week. Every certain period those who gain the least sum of scores are expelled from the competition. The coaches of the project are Ilia Averbukh and Alexander Zhulin. Each of them coaches a team that consists of 8 couples, so not only couples, but also teams compete against each other. Among the skaters there are Maria Petrova & Alexei Tikhonov, Albena Denkova, Alexei Yagudin, Anton Sikharulidze, Tatiana Totmianina & Maxim Marinin, Sergei Sakhnovski, Tatiana Navka & Roman Kostomarov, Anna Semenovich, Elena Leonova & Andrei Khvalko, Irina Lobacheva and surely MARGARITA and POVILAS. |

Margarita's partner is the popular Russian actor Alexander
Diachenko. Alexander was born on June 12, 1965, in St.Petersburg. He plays ice hockey rather well, did oriental combat, worked as a sports manager and even has recorded a CD with several songs. He is the most tall and strong man among the participants of the project and one of the most handsome as well ;) He is unmarried. Alexander's determination to do his best is very well illustrated by this dialogue between him and Rita which was aired in the first episode: R. - "Do you mean you want to do everything perfectly on the second day of practicing on figure skating skates?" A. - "Yes, YES, YEEEEEEEEES!!!" R. - "Ok, then go!!!" Alexander about figure skating: "I felt scared and cold. I was frightened by the ice and by the toepicks, and then came Margarita and I felt calm and relaxed." Rita about figure skating: "The most important and significant event for us, I suppose, was when we became bronze medalists at the World Championships in Nice (2000). It was a huge event for us, a memorable one, and I guess it was a kind of a turning point in our destiny and career." Alexander about Rita: "I tell you this: I saw Margarita and realized at once that, despite a huge number of very beautiful people in this project, I can say for sure - my partner is the MOST beautiful!" Rita about Alexander: "He is simply big, he is huuuuge! He's like Gerard Depardieu, but more in macho-style! Surely I was really shocked at first, but that is what I like him for." Alexander about the project: "The main thing in all this is to get joy and pleasure out of it! And I also thought that even if there is a misfortune, even if I fall down (as the main aim for me now is to learn to skate on the figure skating skates and not to fall down), my mom won't love me less, will you, mom?" 
Povilas's partner is TV host Larissa Verbitskaya. Larissa was born in Feodosia, Crimea, a part of the present Ukraine. In her childhood she dreamed of becoming an actress and organized a theatre studio in her school. Now she hosts the morning program "Good morning" on the most important Russian TV channel - Channel 1. She is married and has two children. Larissa about skating: "When I first felt the ice, pushed away from the boards and glided, I was struck by panic and said the following phrase - Oh, my god, it is so slippery, how can you skate on it!!" Ilia Averbukh called her the shiest lady on the project. Larissa about the project: "If somebody had told me a couple of months ago that I would be skating in a pair with the world's champion, doing some elements, creating programs, I would have laughed long and loudly, but life brings so many surprises that you can hardly believe it!" Povilas about figure skating: "When the Lithuanian anthem was being performed - the anthem of my motherland - it was the most important event for me. When we stood on top of the podium and the Lithuanian flag was rising, then I felt that I didn't regret all those years spent on ice rinks in different parts of the world." Larissa about Povilas: "I have imagined my partner to be exactly like that. He is delicate, well-bred, cultured, with a great sense of humour, and what is the most important, he is genuine, he is trustworthy." Povilas about the project: "It is a huge challenge for all of us, but I guess that we - with our firm hands and professional skating skills - will do our best that they (the celebrities) can avoid injuries and look their best on the tv screens." |
